Thomas J. Hombosky
Thomas H. Hombosky affectionately know who most as “Hambone” of Frackville passed away peacefully at Ridgeview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Shenandoah Heights, where he had been a patient since October 2011.
Born in Mount Carmel, March 1, 1928, he was a son of the late Michael and Anna Biros Hombosky. He attended Mount Carmel Area Schools graduating High School at the age of 16. Friday nights would find Hambone, his brother Edward aka “Bim” and his brother in law Charles Noscoviak faithfully attending Red Tornado football games.
After graduation Thomas worked in the textile industry in New York City. At age 18 he joined the US Coast Guard to serve his country during WWII. He received an Honorable Discharge as Seaman First Class in June 1947. Upon returning home, he graduated from the PA State Police Academy. He worked as a PA State Police Trooper for 32 years and retired as a Corporal. After working full time he kept himself busy with part time work for the First Union Bank as a mail courier. He even dabbled in politics being elected Mayor of Frackville.
Thomas was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police, Philip Melley Memorial Lodge #65, Goodwill Hose Company, BPO Elks #1533, both of Frackville, VFW Post #2110, Mount Carmel and the Pennsylvania State Retirees Association.
He was preceded in death by his infant son, Glenn Thomas Hombosky; three sisters; Mary Baker, Eleanor Noscoviak and Annamae Hombosky; two brothers, Edward and Michael Hombosky.
Thomas is survived by his wife Jeanette F. Zearfoss Hombosky, Thomas and Jeanette would have ceebrated their 60th wedding anniversary, March 14, 2013. Also surviving a daughter Anna May Domalakes and her husband Larry; a son Thomas, Jr. all of Frackville; six grandchildren, Melissa Hombosky, Bellefonte, Tracy Hombosky, Jennifer Kessler, Crystal Domalakes, Anthony Domalakes, all of Frackville and David “Drew” Domalakes, Houston, TX; six great-grandchildren; Amaya Kessler, Karlie Kessler, Zachary Kessler, Brett Krapf, Alexander Krapf and Kira Krapf, Frackville; a brother Ralph, Tucson, AZ; a sister Joan Shovlin, Kulpmont; nieces and nephews.
Hambone enjoyed attending Penn State Nittany Lion home games at Beaver Stadium and frequently traveled with his bowl buddies to PSU Bowl Games. He rarely lit up a cigar that he didn’t like. Another delight he had was washing and waxing his car or pushing his great grandchildren on their swing while puffing away on his cigar.
A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 am Saturday morning in Annunciation BVM Catholic Church, 11 S. Broad Mountain Ave., Frackville with Rev. Robert Finlan, Pastor, as Celebrant. Relatives and Friends are invited to a visitation from 10 am until the time of Mass in the Church. Interment with Military Honors will be in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville, at the convenience of the family.
