Born in Frackville, he was a son of the late Wasyl and Margaret Socker Washchysion

He was a graduate of the former Frackville High School and the Colgate University with a Bachelor of Science Degree.

John was a career U.S. Navy Pilot having served for 28 years.  He last served as Commander at Naval Airforce Station, Norfolk, VA.  He received Commendations for his service during the Vietnam War.

John, his wife Helen and children were stationed at several Navy Airforce Station across the United States

He was a member of the Ashland American Legion.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother Bill (Wasyl).

John is survived by his wife Helen M. Martinez Washchysion, a son; John Washchysion; three daughters; Barbara Zankeer, Emily Christy and Melanie Potter; a granddaughter; Candace Christy; a sister; Olga Gehman and nieces; Joanne Conjar, Gayle Larkin and Wendy Calta.

With concerns for the Covid 19 virus, Private Graveside Services with Military Honors were held at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville.
