Died: Nov 19, 2020
Pearl M. Hocking
Pearl Marie Buren Hocking, 83, of Fountain Springs, joined the Lord on November 19, 2020, at Family Home Medical – Aristes House.

Born March 23, 1937, in Ashland, she was the daughter of the late Mary Runchock Buren and George Buren.

Pearl graduated from Frackville High School in 1955 where she played the French horn in the marching band and played basketball.  Prior to and upon graduation she worked as a clerk at ACME, an attendant at the Garden Movie Theatre, and office secretary at Frackville High School.  Shortly thereafter, she began her career with the Bell Telephone – Frackville, Pottsville, and Harrisburg, where she worked for 40 years as a telephone operator and investigator in the Anonymous Call Center before retiring to care for her husband, Harold.  Shortly after his passing she worked as a receptionist for Adams Chiropractic in Frackville for 20 years before “officially” retiring at age 80.

Pearl loved connecting with people through conversations and treasured the friendships she made while working, attending reunions with schoolmates, and participating in church services.  She enjoyed watching football, especially the Eagles and Nittany Lions, playing/watching Jeopardy, and competing against anyone who dared to play her in a game of cards or monopoly.  She especially enjoyed attending any event involving her children and grand-children and proudly served as their number one fan and cheerleader.

She was a selfless and generous woman, always offering to help others, even in her final days.  Her deep religious faith and beliefs kept her strong throughout the years and she thoroughly enjoyed being an active member of the Frackville Four Square Gospel Church where she often referred to others in the congregation as wonderful people.

Preceding her in death, in addition to her parents, were her husband Harold T. Hocking, and siblings, Catherine Hart and John Buren.

Surviving are her sister, Shirley Bartol; two sons, Harold W. Hocking and his fiancée, Sharon Lyn Ryan, Brian Hocking and his fiancée, Caroline Bann; and five grandchildren, Christopher, Brittany, Brandon, Ashley, and Rachel Hocking; nieces and nephews, great-nieces and – nephews, and great-great nieces and – nephews.

The family extends their heart-felt thanks and appreciation to all those working at Family Home Medical for providing Pearl support and comfort in her final days.

Religious Servcies will be held Friday evening, July 30, at 7:00 p.m. with Pastor Todd Dewire of the Foursquare Gospel Church, Frackville.  Relatives and friends are invited to a visitation from 6 to 8 p.m at the funeral home.  Interment will be private in St. Joseph Cemetery, Fountain Springs.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Family Home Medical, 50 S. Oak St., Mt. Carmel, PA  17851 and/or Frackville Four Square Gospel Church, 415 Coal St. Tuscarora, PA  17982.

A celebration of Pearl’s life will be held at a later date.

Harold and family, I am so very sorry to hear of your mother's passing. I just learned of it a day or two ago. Please accept my deepest sympathy. She was a wonderful person, smiling all the time. I enjoyed our talks when she worked at Adam's Chiropractic. Please know I will remember her and you in my prayers. Love and blessings, Teri
