Ruth S. Thomas, 85, of Frackville passed away Saturday at Lehigh Valley Hospital, East Norwegian St. Pottsville.

Born in Shenandoah, March 23, 1933, she was a daughter of the late William and Margaret Freeman Surfield. 

She was a graduate of Frackville High School, class of 1951.

Ruth was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Frackville and was on the church Administrative Board.  She was also a member of the former Ladies of the Elks of B.P.O E.  Elks Lodge #1533, Frackville. 

An avid Penn State Football Fan she enjoyed going to many games with her family.

She worked as a Bank Teller for over 20 years at the M & T Bank and former Pennsylvania National Bank, Frackville.  She previously worked as an operator for Bell Telephone.

A devoted wife and loving mother and nanny, she was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years George “Butch” Thomas, in 2013; a son, David Thomas, in 1990; sister, Esther Mayusky, in 2009 and infant sister, Suzanne Surfield

Ruth is survived by a daughter, Pam Thomas, Frackville; a son, Bruce Thomas and wife Annette, Bloomsburg; three grandchildren; Nicole Williams and husband Nathan, Bloomsburg; Megan Thomas, Bloomsburg and Blaire Thomas, Lancaster; three great-grandchildren; Ethan, Noah and Mason Williams; nieces and nephews.

Religious Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday morning at the First United Methodist Church, Frackville with Pastor David J. Davis, officiating.  Relatives and friends are invited to a visitation from 9 to 11 a.m. in the church.  Interment will be in Odd Fellows Cemetery, Frackville.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made in Ruth’s name to the First United Methodist Church, 25 S. Balliet St.  Frackville, PA  17931.
