Delmar C. Phillips, Sr.

Delmar C. Phillips, Sr. 76, a lifelong resident of Frackville, passed away Thursday morning at the Broad Mountain Health and Rehabilitation Center, Frackville after a courageous battle with cancer.

Born in Frackville, December 14, 1939, he was a son of the late Alfred and Sarah Hilda Houtz Phillips. He was a Frackville High School graduate, class of 1957.

He was a veteran of the US Army having served in Germany with the 9th Artillery.

He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Frackville.

Delmar was a Sargeant in the Sheriff’s Office of Schuylkill County before he retired and he last worked as a security guard for the North Schuylkill School District.

Delmar formerly served as Mayor of Frackville and served on Frackville Borough Council for 8 years and was also former member of the Frackville Area Municipal Authority. He was a Democratic committeeman for many years

He was a member of the American Legion Post #398 and was an active member of the Military Honor Guard team.  He was a past Exhalted Ruler, Past Elk of the Year and Past Trustee of the Frackville BPOE Elks Lodge #1533.

Delmar was involved with local youth sports having coached Frackville Little League and Teener Baseball.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a brother Edward Phillips.

Delmar is survived by his wife of 50 years, Barbara E. Zack Phillips; two sons; Delmar C., Jr. and Darren C. all of Frackville; four sisters; Delphine L. Burda, widow of John, Frackville; Lucille Katilas, widow of Joseph, Frackville; Janice Overman and husband John, Woodbridge, VA and Beverly;  Several nieces and nephews.

A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday morning at the First United Methodist Church, 25 S. Balliet St., Frackville, with Rev. Jonathan Hall, pastor, officiating.  Relatives and friends are invited to call from 8 to 11 a.m. at the church.  Interment will be held at the convenience of the family.

In Lieu of flowers donations can be made to the American Cancer Society, 101 W. Frack St., Frackville, PA  17931.

Delmar will be greatly missed. He was Uncle Delmar to me since I was small. Delmar really was not related to me but treated me and my daughter like we were his family. He would do anything for the kids. God bless you! My pap & your buddies can be playing cards up there & having a blast. 🙏 send to your family.
