Charles H. “Chick” Hampton, 87, of Butler Township, passed into the loving arms of the Lord on Friday, June 29, 2018, surrounded by his family.

Born on March 2, 1931, he was the son of the late Lloyd and Elsie Berger Hampton, formerly of Washington Street, Frackville.

Chick was a graduate of the Frackville High School and a life-long member of the Zion Lutheran Church, also of Frackville.  He joined the United States Air Force in 1950 where he served as an aircraft mechanic and attained the rank of Sergeant.  His military service took him to England and North Africa.  His military service is a proud tradition among the male members of the Hampton Family, dating back to the Civil War.

On November 11, 1956, he married his wife of 57 years, Anna Mae Romaniscon-Hampton and together they raised four children on the family farm in Butler Township.  Chick was often found on his tractor tending to his crops and garden.  He delighted himself in feeding his family and friends with the vegetables and beef that he produced on his farm.  His harvests were always abundant.  He loved his animals and could always be found with one of his fiercely loyal dogs by his side.

He worked for the Bell Telephone Company of Pennsylvania and retired after 38 years of service.  Thereafter, he worked for several years as a Mate and Cook on a crude oil cargo barge helmed by his nephew, Captain Keith Henderson.  He made numerous Atlantic Ocean voyages and trips up and down the Hudson River aboard the Rober IV, a vessel home ported in Staten Island, New York.

He was a member of Ashland Lodge #238,, Free and Accepted Masons and the Tall Cedars of Lebanon.  He enjoyed his membership in the Chartered Social Club known as the Rum Dums, where he served as the 38th Grand Guzzler.  He was an avid hunter and fisherman and a member of the Altamont Rod and Gun Club, Seltzer Gun Club and the NRA.  He was also a member and past president of the Fountain Springs Fire Company.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Anna Mae, his two brothers, Robert Hampton, formerly of Marietta, Georgia, Donald Hampton, formerly of Frackville, and his sister June Henderson, formerly of Staten Island, New York.   He was also preceded in death by his nephews Donny Hampton, formerly of Marietta, Georgia, and Captain Keith Henderson, formerly of Staten Island, New York.

Chick is survived by his four children, Carole A. Mishlanie, and husband, Raymond, Ringtown; Attorney Lloyd R. Hampton, David Hampton, Attorney John M. Hampton and wife, Cindy, his beloved granddaughter, Kierstynn M. Hampton, and numerous nieces and nephews.

The Hampton Family respectfully invites our many family members and friends to celebrate Chick’s life on Tuesday, July 3, 2018, at the Zion Lutheran Church, Frackville.  Visitation will begin at 9:00 a.m., with an 11:00 a.m. funeral service being conducted by the Rev. Carl Shankweiler.
