Walter Andrews
Walter Andrews, 92, of Morea, formerly of Frackville, passed away Sunday at Schuylkill Medical Center, South Jackson St. Pottsville Born in Shenandoah, in 1923 he was a son of the late Paul and Josephine Witchnck Andrews. He was a graduate of West Mahanoy Township High School. He was a U.S. Army veteran of WWII having served with the 44th division of the 71st infantry regiment in the European Theatre of operations; He landed on Utah Beach in the invasion of Normandy, France; He attained the rank of Sergeant and received the Bronze Star, the European, African, Middle Eastern Ribbon, with three battle stars, the combat Infantryman badge, the World War Victory Ribbon and the American Theatre Ribbon He was a member of St. Joseph’s Parish, Frackville, active in St. Ann’s Roman Catholic Church, and the United Steel Workers Union He worked for Dana Corporation, Reading as a 1st class machinist. Walter was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years Helen Yatsko Andrews, in 2002, a sister, Anna Kowalick; three brothers, Frank, Chester and Theodore Andrews. He is survived by a daughter; Nancy J. Kardisco and husband Edward, Morea; two sons; Joseph P. Andrews and wife Karen, Fleetwood; and Paul W. Andrews and wife Debbie, Durham, NC; six grandchildren; Edward Kardisco and wife Colleen, Keri Kardisco, Benjamin, Jill, Zachery and Rebecca Andrews; great-granddaughter Kendall Kardisco; nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Thursday morning in St. Ann’s Roman Catholic Church, Frackville with Rev. Robert Finlan, pastor, as celebrant. Relatives and friends are invited to a visitation from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Thursday morning at the Albert L. Gricoski Funeral Home, Frackville. Interment with Military Honors will be in Schuylkill Memorial Park, Schuylkill Haven. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to St. Joseph’s Memorial fund, 7 S. broad mountain Ave., Frackville, PA 17931
