W. Ronald Dixon, 80, of Frackville, passed away Monday at Schuylkill Medical Center – East Norwegian St., Pottsville.

 

Born in Frackville, May 24, 1934, he was a son of the late William and Elizabeth Hopkins Dixon.

 

A graduate of Frackville High School, class of 1952, Ronald received his Bachelor’s Degree from East Stroudsburg University where he played football.

 

He was a lifelong member of the First United Methodist Church, Frackville; a licensed Lay Speaker for the Methodist Church; and was Co-Pastor of the United Presbyterian Church, Mt. Carmel. He was also a Gideon’s member.

 

A lifelong educator, he began his career in teaching at Millersburg High School 1959-1962 and then taught at Ashland High School before North Schuylkill Jr/Sr High School, Fountain Springs, until his retirement. He taught Science, Physical Education, Health and was a Driver’s Education Instructor. He also assisted with the initial creation of the North Schuylkill wrestling program.

 

Ronald was active in many civic and educational programs.  He was a former high school football and baseball coach and a former Frackville Teener League baseball coach. . He was a former North Schuylkill Assistant Athletic Director; a member of the Schuylkill County Inter-Scholastic Athletic Association. And was a former Northeastern PA baseball talent scout for the Philadelphia Phillies organization.

 

He was an Officer, member and recipient of the Jerry Wolman Northern Anthracite Hall of Fame. He was a 50 year plus member of the F&AM Masonic Lodge 737, Frackville, and a member of the Bloomsburg Consistory.   

 

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his daughter-in-law; Tina L. Dixon, in 2010

 

Ronald is survived by his wife of 58 years Rosemary A. Tenaglia Dixon, Frackville; a son; Brad C. Dixon, Frackville; a daughter; Robin L Fritz and husband Nelson, Benton; four grandchildren; Cullen Dixon, Nicholas Dixon, Caleb Fritz and his wife Elizabeth and Joshua Fritz and his wife Sandy; three great-grandchildren; Michael, Maria and Linnea Fritz; a brother Thomas Dixon and his wife Barbara, Frackville; nieces and nephews.

 

Religious Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday at the First United Methodist Church, Frackville with Pastor Sue Ketterer, officiating. Relatives and friends are invited to a visitation from 9:00 a.m. till time of service at the church. Interment will be Odd Fellows Cemetery, Shenandoah Heights.
