Lloyd A. Knittle
Lloyd A. Knittle, 95, of Frackville passed away peacefully Thursday morning at his residence surrounded by his family.
 
Born in Frackville, November 18, 1918, he was a son of the late John and Ruth Hampton Knittle.
 
He was a graduate of Frackville High School and received several awards of having perfect attendance for 13 years of schooling.
 
After graduation, Lloyd served in the U.S. Army in the European Theatre of Operations during World War II under Gen. George S. Patton. He received a Purple Heart during his tour of duty and attained the rank of Staff Sergeant.
 
He was a member of St. Peter’s United Church of Christ, a lifetime member of the American Legion Post #398, both of Frackville and lifetime member of the Order of the Purple Heart.
 
Lloyd worked for the former A& P Tea Company for 48 year as a meat cutter in both St. Clair and Minersville.
 
He was preceded in death by his wife of 69 years Grace M. Stank Knittle, in 2011, three sisters; Edna Moyer, Grace Bretz and Evelyn Orlowsky and brother, John Knittle.
 
Lloyd is survived by his daughter Barbara Martin and husband Paul, Sr., Frackville; a son Lamar Knittle and wife Catherine, Sault Sainte Marie, Mich; five grandchildren; Paul Martin, Jr., David, Dorothy, and Pamela Knittle and Stacey Sandy; nine great-grandchildren; a sister Betty Eichelberger, brother; Kenneth Knittle, both of Frackville; nieces and nephews.
 
Graveside Services with Military Honors will be held at a later date at the convenience of the family.
