Stanley W. Matlowski
Stanley W. Matlowsky, 101, formerly of Frackville passed away July 7 in Cape May Court House, NJ.

He was born in Suwalki, Poland and came to America in 1923,  Stanley was forced to leave his formal education behind in order to help support his family; but 70 years later he received an honorary diploma from J.W. Cooper High School in Shenandoah.

Stanley was married for over 70 years to the late Lena Paszkiewicz Matlowski.

In 1944 they opened Stanley's Food Store in Frackville which remained in business until 1995.  A lack of education never hindered Stanley from achieving a lifetime of astonishing goals. 

He was nominiated by then Pennsylvania Governor William Scranton and confirmed by the PA Senate to serve as a member of te former Locust Mountain State Hospital board of Trustees and served in that capacity from 1963-1974.

As President of the Polish beneficial Association Stanley was named to the Ellis Island Restoration Committee of four states, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware and Maryland, chaired by Lee Iacocca.  He held an executive position for over 24 years.

He was a 4th Degree member of the Knights of Columbus, Schuylkill Assembly; past Grand Knight of the Rev James A. Hogan Knights of Columbus council #2580, Frackville and was the recipient of the 1975 God and country Award for his service as a District Deputy Director.  He was past Governer of the Royal Order of Moose, Shenandoah.

He is survived by his daughters; Charlotte (John) Sideravage, Cape May Court House and Diane (Thomas) Corrigan, Pittstown, NJ; grandchildren; diane (Rodney) Fox and John (BJ) Sideravage; 4 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild; several nieces and nephews.

A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday July 19, in St. Ann Roman Catholic Church, Frackville, with Rev. Robert Finlan, pastor, as celebrant.  Relatives and friends are invited to a visitation from 10:30 till time of Mass at the church.  Interment will be in St. Casimir's Cemetery, Shenandoah Heights.
